The H-1-N-1 flu has arrived in Bruce and Grey Counties.
Bayshore Broadcasting News has learned an unidentified woman has contracted a very mild case of the flu virus.
Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn tells us the woman is resting at home.
But Doctor Lynn says they have no idea how she contracted H-1-N-1 because she has not travelled outside Grey Bruce.
The woman went to her doctor and lab tests confirmed the H-1-N-1 virus.
Doctor Lynn says the woman started showing symptoms May 21st so she likely contracted the flu 3 days before then.
Doctor Lynn says it’s hard to pinpoint the source when the virus dates back that long.
Doctor Lynn says she is not surprised the H-1-N-1 flu has made its way to Grey Bruce — but she is surprised it took this long.
Doctor Lynn wants all residents to continue to take their usual precautions to prevent the spread of disease.
That means washing your hands, coughing into your sleeve and staying home if you are sick.
The Grey Bruce H-1-N-1 flu case is one 626 cases reported in Ontario.
Almost all of the cases to date are considered mild.
Symptoms of the H1N1 flu virus are similar to seasonal influenza — including chills and cough followed by fever, loss of appetite, muscle aches and fatigue, runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes and throat irritation.
