Walkerton Selected For New Hospice

Brockton | by Robyn Garvey

East Ridge Business Park new site for six-bed Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce location

Residential Hospice Grey Bruce has found a site for its new satellite centre.

Brockton has agreed in principal to donate a 4.8 acre parcel of land to serve as the home of the southern Grey Bruce Hospice satellite.

The land is located in Walkerton’s East Ridge Business Park.

The donation which has been made in principal still requires some fine detail work before it becomes official.

Mayor Chris Peabody says it is now a matter of going through the proper processes and finalizing the details.

Executive Director of Residential Hospice Grey Bruce Alex Hector is thrilled.

He calls the Walkerton site the perfect location for the future six bed residential Southern Grey Bruce satellite Hospice.

Along with the request for a donation of land, Grey Bruce Hospice has also requested that Brockton waive all fees associated with site plan applications, building permits and servicing.

Peabody says this request will require further negotiations between Brockton and Grey Bruce Hospice.

Peabody is very pleased that Brockton will be home to the future Satellite Hospice which organizers hope to have constructed by 2024.

He is also confident residents will be supportive of Council’s decision to donate land within the East Ridge Business Park for this project.

Once Brockton has worked out all of the fine details, Hector says they will begin the construction planning process.

The future satellite six bed Hospice will service a growing need in the region.

It also comes with the creation of seven to ten new healthcare jobs and will hopefully assist with the attraction and retention of physicians and specialists.
