The 32nd Annual Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular kicks off on Friday August 23rd (Just under one week).
As excitement for anglers grows the event is still seeking volunteers.
The 10 day event sees food being served all day for those visiting the fish tent at any time. John Ford the co-chair of the Salmon Spectacular says he encourages people to come out and lend a hand.
"We can always use more help with the food stands," Ford says, "Young people can also get their volunteer hours for high school by helping at our weigh stations."
Ford, who has been a member of the Sydenham Sportsmen since the 1970's has been involved in the derby every year. He says the change in the community mindset of the derby has aided in making it a local tradition.
"We now have entertainment in the afternoons and evenings and our fish fry's fill up the tent both Saturdays," Ford says.
Ford also says that the derby has grown in size annually, "people come from all over to participate, last year we had 5000 anglers," Ford states.
This year's Salmon Spectacular runs from August 23rd to September 1st.
