When is a "general announcement" not a "general announcement?"
Councillor Gerry Glover brought up an issue about the condition of Station Beach and the pier in that area.
That started the discussion but some council members were saying that isn't what "general announcements" are all about.
Glover says, "In hindsight I'm certainly cognizant and acutely aware of procedure. I felt this was an issue that had to be put out there."
He says, there are safety concerns on the pier where people could be hurt and he's received calls and emails from residents and tourists complaining about the conditions.
He says, "If we're holding ourselves out as a tourist destination, we certainly need to convey that message and right now, we're falling short on that promise."
It was suggested if he has a debatable issue, it can be added to the agenda under "amendments, additions or deletions," in the future but not during "general announcements" which it appears is just for good news.
