Former Saugeen Shores Mayor Takes on New Role

Mike Smith has been appointed as chair of the Walkerton Clean Water Centre Board of Directors

Former Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith has been appointed as chair of the Walkerton Clean Water Centre Board of Directors.

Smith was most recently Mayor of Saugeen Shores for 12 years and served as Bruce County Warden in 2010 and 2011. 

Overall Smith has served as an elected official for 27 years and has sat on many boards.

WCWC is an agency of the Government of Ontario, established in 2004, to ensure clean and safe drinking water.

Smith is retired from Bruce Nuclear Power Development where he spent 23 years in Operations at the Bruce Heavy Water Plant and 16 years as a Senior Chemical Operator. After that position, Mr. Smith spent 10 years on site in the Nuclear Safety Training department developing and delivering safety training to plant personnel.

A WCWC release states they look forward to welcoming Mr. Smith and the knowledge and experience he will bring to the board of directors.
